About the event

Join Father Cramer as he works through some reading this summer. The first summer book group discussion will be on the book The Flag and the Cross: White Christian Nationalism and the Threat to American Democracy by Philip S. Gorski, Samuel L. Perry, and Jemar Tisby (Oxford, 2022). As the book description says,

In this short primer, they explain what white Christian nationalism is and is not; when it first emerged and how it has changed; where it's headed and why it threatens democracy. Tracing the development of this ideology over the course of three centuries―and especially its influence over the last three decades―they show how, throughout American history, white Christian nationalism has animated the oppression, exclusion, and even extermination of minority groups while securing privilege for white Protestants.

Fr. Cramer truly believes this issue strikes to the core of many of the struggles in our nation and even our local community. Spend some time in these early months reading the book and then join him for conversation on Monday, July 24, at 5:30pm in the Guild Room. If you’d like us to order a book for you, please sign up below! The cost will be $22—though Fr. Cramer is happy to cover your cost, just let him know.  We’ll order the books on Monday, June 26.
